KERNGEBIET: CÔTE DES BLANCS
Die berühmteste Heimat des Chardonnay. Die tiefen Kreideböden verleihen den Weinen Präzision, Finesse und eine vibrierende Mineralität. Je nach Gemeinde reichen die Stilistiken von der cremigen Eleganz Cramants über die Großzügigkeit Ogers bis zur messerscharfen Spannung von Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.

WICHTIGE CHARDONNAY-HERKÜNFTE:
CÔTE DE SÉZANNE - rund & fruchtbetont
Südliche Verlängerung der Côte des Blancs. Die Böden bestehen ebenfalls auf Kreide, enthalten jedoch oft höhere Anteile an Lehm, Mergel und Ton. Die Chardonnays wirken dadurch meist runder, fruchtbetonter und zugänglicher als die oft stahlig-kühlen Weine der Côte des Blancs.

MONTGUEUX - burgundisch & kraftvoll
Der isolierte Kreidehügel südlich von Troyes bringt kraftvolle Blanc de Blancs hervor. Reife gelbe Frucht, Fülle und eine fast burgundische Textur treffen auf die typische Frische des Chardonnay. In der ansonsten Pinot-Noir-geprägten Côte des Bar ist Montgueux eine außergewöhnliche Chardonnay-Hochburg – oft als „Montrachet der Champagne“ bezeichnet.

COTEAUX VITRYATS - mineralisch & schlank
Im Südosten der Marne gelegen, ist dieses kleine Gebiet stark vom Chardonnay geprägt. Die kalkreichen Böden bringen mineralische, schlanke und geradlinige Chardonnays hervor – ähnlich Montgueux, aber meist etwas weniger karg und straff.

MONTAGNE DE REIMS - kraftvoll & ausdrucksstark
Chardonnay spielt hier zwar nur eine Nebenrolle, bringt aber besonders kraftvolle, strukturierte und ausdrucksstarke Weine hervor. Besonders spannend sind die Chardonnay-Lagen in Premier Cru-Gemeinden wie Trépail und Villers-Marmery.

Teil der Montagne de Reims - MONTS DE BERRU - elegant & kraftvoll
Der Mont de Berru liegt am nördlichen Rand der Montagne de Reims. Da hier die für die Region typische dicke Lehmschicht fehlt, ähneln die Böden stärker denen der Côte des Blancs. Die Chardonnays verbinden Eleganz, Mineralität und bemerkenswerte Kraft.

Chardonnay is perhaps the grape variety in Champagne through which the influence of terroir can be experienced most clearly. Chalk, sand, clay, exposition and microclimate give the wines very different tension and texture depending on their origin. This package invites you to compare six distinct interpretations of Chardonnay from different regions of Champagne side by side. From the chalk dominated soils of the Mont de Berru, through the great Grand Cru vineyards of the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs, to the lesser known Chardonnay terroirs of Montgueux, the Côte de Sézanne and the Vallée de la Marne, each bottle reveals a different facet of the grape variety. The question is not which wine is the “best”. Far more fascinating is discovering how differently Chardonnay can express itself when its origin is allowed to take centre stage.
