Christophe Dechannes
The labels of Christophe Dechannes' Champagnes feature an image of an old tree that stands on the Dechannes family's property. Planted shortly after the French Revolution, it continues to inspire the family to this day, symbolizing freedom, life, growth, power and strength.
Since 1956, the Dechannes family has embraced these values in their agricultural work. In 1973, Roland Dechannes began producing his own Champagnes in Les Riceys. This village of around 1,000 inhabitants on the Aube River in the south of Champagne is the only municipality in France to hold three Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC, protected designation of origin): Champagne, Coteaux Champenois (still wine from Champagne) and Rosé des Riceys (still rosé wine). Today, Christophe and his wife Christine, together with their children Roland and Laura, are responsible for 9 hectares of vineyards there. Predominantly Pinot Noir, along with some Chardonnay, grows on the clay and limestone soils, producing wines with delicate fruitiness and full-bodied maturity.
Dechannes' Champagnes are characterized by pleasant fruitiness, making them approachable and giving them a juicy, effortless drinkability. At the same time, they are wonderfully vinous and always marked by beautiful freshness, making them excellent companions throughout an entire evening.
