Benoît Lahaye

Benoît Lahaye is a winemaker who consistently and passionately goes his own way, who observes, who is ready to learn from nature and, if necessary, adapt what has been previously applied.
In 1993 he took over the family business and soon afterwards decided to make a fundamental change. So he switched to organic, then certified organic and finally biodynamic viticulture.
In the meantime, not only his wife Valérie and their two sons help him with this labor-intensive task, but also Tamise, a mare with whom he works most of the vineyards, for over 10 years.
Since then it has been growing and thriving in Benôit's vineyards: Herbs and grasses, compost, the biodynamic preparations and the associated species-rich life contribute to the health and vitality of its locations.
In addition to a small plot of Chardonnay near Voipreux, these are mainly in Bouzy, Ambonnay and Tauxières. Therefore, the Pinot Noir also plays the main role with almost 90% in its expressive champagnes.
For several years now, the wines have been fermented and matured in small, used wooden barrels using only indigenous yeasts; which gives you further complexity and depth.
Like Benoît himself, they are individualists with a strong character. Haunting and intense, yet also elegant and mineral-based on the ground. The Cuvée Violaine even completely dispenses with additional sulphurisation.
