Labruyère

The village of Verzenay in the Montagne de Reims was ranked among the top three crus in Champagne in an unofficial list in 1873. It retains its Grand Cru status to this day. This was one of the reasons why the Labruyère family – who also own the world-famous Domaine Jacques Prieur in Burgundy – chose this location to establish a champagne estate. As ‘Récoltant-Manipulant’, they have opted for sustainable and terroir-driven cultivation of their vineyards, a key pillar of the family’s values. As a result, the domaine has been certified organic since 2023.

To preserve the identity of the terroirs, each plot is pressed and vinified separately. Maturation takes place in stainless steel tanks, demi-muids (600 litres) or Burgundian oak barrels (228 litres, also from Jacques Prieur). All wines undergo malolactic fermentation. They mature on the lees for at least 3–5 years, are dosed sparingly, and the utmost care is taken in selecting the reserve wines. Vintage champagnes are even allowed up to 10 years to mature in the bottle. After disgorgement, the wines rest in the cellar for a further 8 months before sale.

The freshness and structure of Labruyère’s wines are wonderfully balanced by the long period of ageing on the lees, resulting in champagnes that are straightforward, multi-layered and mineral, yet never austere.
