Champagne Vauversin covers 3 hectares and is located in the Grand Cru village of Oger, between the equally famous villages of Avize and Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger on the Côte des Blancs. The family has been involved in winegrowing since 1640. With Laurent, the fourth generation began producing champagne under its own name in 2011. Only Chardonnay is cultivated, with an annual production of just 18,000 bottles.
Laurent is a person who scrutinises many things and then tackles them consistently when they seem important to him. He wants to create the best possible and most sensible transition between preserving centuries of experience and new, contemporary impulses and visions. The first thing he initiated after taking over was the conversion to organic viticulture - the winery was certified in 2014, making it the first organic winery in Oger.
Biodiversity in the vineyard is particularly important to him. As a result, you can see a variety of herbs and shrubs when you enter the Vauversin vineyards. Laurent is convinced that if a positive energy is cultivated in the soil and vines, this is also transferred to the people who enjoy his champagnes. He is a quiet, contemplative type and his champagnes are exactly the same: poetic, quiet, floral, subtle, light-footed, almost ethereal, unagitated, at peace with themselves but also somehow playful, nothing overly made-up or wild - they present themselves straightforward, clean and long...!
All champagnes are vinified with indigenous yeasts from the vineyard and are not filtered. They are very low in sulphur (less than 35mg/l) - and extremely digestible! They are still riddled by hand in the natural cellar.
