Guillaume Marteaux is a winery from Bonneil, a small
UNESCO-protected village community at the western end of Champagne. The story of Champagne Marteaux Guillaume officially began in 2003, when Guillaume, after completing his oenology studies (Lycée Viticole de la Champagne in Avize), took over the family business in the fifth generation. At that time the vineyards covered 75 ares (0.75 hectares). Today the winery extends over 8 hectares and will carry
Demeter certification from the 2023 vintage.
A key feature of the region is the unique terroir: the winery is located in a natural amphitheater with an altitude difference of 110 meters and an ideal south/southeast orientation. This geographical location protects the vines from strong winds and offers exciting opportunities to express the terroir with a diverse range of soil conditions.
The principles of biodynamic farming are applied throughout the entire farm. Starting with mechanical tillage, through promoting biodiversity in and around the vineyards, including insect hotels, to the use of biodynamic preparations and herbal extracts to strengthen the vines' natural defenses.
In the wine cellar, Guillaume relies on gentle vinification and spontaneous fermentation with natural yeast strains. The wines are made without heating, further reducing the ecological footprint. The focus on sustainability is also evident in the packaging: even the labels are made from recycled wood.
Champagne Guillaume Marteaux represents the combination of tradition and innovation in viticulture. The
bold and expressive champagnes are the result of five decades of family winemaking tradition, combined with modern techniques and a
strong commitment to holistic practices.
