Orban was founded in 1929. At that time, Léopold Orban was the first to install his own press in his town. This adventurer was a veritable source of inspiration for generations to come.
Francis took over the business in the 4th generation.
The vineyards (7.5 ha on a total of 29 plots) are located around the village of Leuvrigny, a small town in the heart of the Marne Valley. The rows of vines enjoy particularly favorable sun exposure due to their south-southeast orientation, which is ideal for the Meunier, which occupies more than 90% of the area here.
The soil of the vineyards consists mainly of limestone and sandy formations with some layers of clay, giving the champagnes a subtle blend of richness and freshness.
Francis has a deep passion for the Meunier, which finds an ideal expression here, drawing its freshness from the limestone and its delicacy from the clayey subsoil.
The Chardonnay, which makes up 9% of the area, grows on limestone soil and, as a supplement, brings a special radiance to the cuvées.
Francis decided early on for sustainable viticulture by interfering minimally with nature and not using insecticides.
Plowing and green vine rows encourage the vine to use its own pest control skills.
Reserve wines play an important role in the cellar.
Francis Orban's Champagnes are lively and expressive, while at the same time stripping everything superfluous.
Always looking for the finest and most intense expression of the terroir, the winemaker wants to create emotions and share them with his customers.
