Champagne Salmon was first founded in 1958 by Michel Salmon and is now run by Alexandre Salmon in the fourth generation. The winery is located in Chaumuzy, in the Vallée de l'Ardre, a sub-region of the region of the Montage de Reims. About halfway from the route from Reims to the Vallée de la Marne, its influences influences can be clearly felt: because the Salmon family family does not focus primarily on the Grand Cru grape varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but on Pinot Meunier.
85% per cent of the 10 hectares of vineyards, some of which are cultivated with a horse, are planted with this grape variety. Salmon thus demonstrates that Pinot Meunier can also produce high-quality, long-lasting Champagne. The humid climate, especially in spring, ensures a nice fruity flavour, while the clay and limestone soils of the Ardre valley bring mineral tension. This blend results in an aromatic and accessible style. The top cuvées are mineral-straight, grippy and complex.
What also makes this family of winegrowers special: they professionally dedicated to the sport of hot air ballooning and regularly take part in international competitions. This passion is also captured on the labels of the Champagne.
