Four Blanc de Blancs, four vintages and two fascinating ways to explore the world of Chardonnay in Champagne. This package brings together exceptionally mature vintage Champagnes with younger wines, showing just how much Chardonnay can evolve with extended bottle ageing.
At the heart of the selection are two beautifully mature wines: Pierre Gimonnet Spécial Club Chouilly 2016 and Pascal Doquet Le Mont Aimé 2012. Le Mont Aimé 2012 was aged for a full 10 years on the bottle on the lees before disgorgement. This extended ageing gives the wines remarkable depth and complexity. Primary fruit gradually gives way to notes of brioche, pastry and nuts, creating a layered and beautifully evolved aromatic profile.
On the other side are J.M. Sélèque Soliste Chardonnay Les Tartières Les Porgeons 2018 and 2019. Particularly fascinating here is that these are two consecutive vintages from exactly the same terroir. This makes it possible to experience directly how differently two vintages can express themselves, even when the origin and the winemaker’s approach remain the same. 2018 was a warm and highly ripe vintage, while 2019 was marked by more extreme conditions, giving it a distinctly individual character.
This package therefore offers two vintage comparisons in one: mature versus young, and at the same time 2018 versus 2019. Four bottles that show what ten or even fifteen years of bottle ageing can bring to Chardonnay, while also demonstrating just how fascinating the direct comparison of two consecutive vintages can be.
