A mature family tradition reinterpreted
Leclaire-Thiefaine is the perfect example of a family winery: Constantin is the 6th generation of the small 3-hectare Leclaire-Thiefaine estate with vineyards in the Grand Cru villages of Avize and Cramant. Founded in 1878, the current name comes from Constantin's father Reynald Leclaire, who married Virginie Thiefaine in 1991. Under his father, several cuvées were named after the four children, who are all actively involved in the business.
Constantin has now taken over the reins and is completely reorganising everything: you can sense his vision of producing particularly expressive champagnes that differ from the super-elegant, polished ones of the Côte des Blancs. The initial mentor of the new style was his neighbour Erick De Sousa, who is famous for his biodynamic approach to viticulture. Constantin is bursting with energy and his champagnes also radiate this: The interplay of oxidation, fullness and taut acidity is perfectly to the point. He also emphasises long bottle ageing and experiments with ageing under cork.
The combination of experience and innovation results in exciting, highly unique creations: Classicism and tradition meet modernity - we are extremely excited to see where Constantin's vision will develop over the next few years!

92% Chardonnay, 8% Pinot NoirDosage 4g/lAged in stainless steelBottle ageing: At least 4 yearsNicola FEB24: Aromatic rosé with not too much fruit, as there is only a small red wine component, spicy, powerful.Moritz FEB24: A very fresh and straightforward rosé. Very subtle aromas of blood orange, tropical citrus fruits and a very fine herbal note waft gently towards you. On the palate, it is more herbal/spicy than on the nose, with the fruit taking a back seat. The gripping acidity brings enormous tension.

100% ChardonnayDosage 2g/lFrom Cramant (Grand Cru)Aged in wooden barrels for 9 monthsBottle aging: At least 5 yearsOld vinesNicola FEB24: Minimal sherry notes, mature, with a finish of salted caramel.Moritz FEB24: Despite its beautiful maturity (slight oxidative notes), the Cuvée Constantin seems quite austere. There are aromas of wet stones, citrus fruits, but also white almonds and salted caramel. On the palate, the aromas from the nose seem a little more tart due to the acidity. The long finish leaves a beautifully chalky/mineral aftertaste, which gives the champagne even more grip and length.Nicola JUN22: Perhaps the chalkiest, most mineral of the range, but again with that beautiful ripe fruit note. Exciting, mildly spicy, complex tone. On the third day: racy, spicy notes, strong character with enormous drinkability.
