Jean-Pierre Vazart began working alongside his father Jacques in 1991 and is now the third generation to run the winery. They worked together to grow the business, develop quality, tend the vineyard and invest in the future. In 1995, Jean-Pierre officially took over the management. Together with his wife Caroline, they are supported by an exceptional team.
The credo at Vazart Couquart is: great champagne cannot be made without great grapes. The main concern is to understand, control, care for and help the vines to harvest the very best result. The grapes are the most important member of the Vazart-Coquart team. The cradle of the company is the village of Chouilly, located in the classified area Grand Cru de la Côte des Blancs. All of their plots are nestled around the village. Chardonnay is by far the predominant grape variety.
Of the 30 plots that make up their 11ha of vineyards, 2ha of them are planted with Pinot Noir vines. In the middle of the last century, several flocks of geese waddled through the village in the mornings and evenings, sometimes causing minor traffic jams.
The neighboring villages quickly adopted the nickname "Bilots" for the residents of Chouilly. It is a synonym for goose in the local Champagne dialect. In the meantime the geese have long since disappeared, but they are proud of this anecdote and in order to present it in a worthy manner in the 3rd generation, you will find 3 small stylized geese on each of their bottles.
Facts: 6 Rue des Partelaines, 51530 Chouilly, 11 hectares. 95% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Noir
