Nose: The Petit Melange is a clear, cool and citrusy Champagne with notes of oyster shell and chalk, lemons and grapefruits including zest. There are also aromas of some green pears, a hint of green olives and, with air, salt lemon, some ginger and lots of lime and white flowers.
Palate: On the palate, the champagne strikes exactly the right balance between fine creaminess and a very pleasant pressure on the palate, between salty iodine, citrus and chalky elements, and a charming, silky ripe and bright fruit. Overall, it is certainly the most challenging and bright, cool and salty of Bonnet-Ponson's Champagnes, which could well be given a few years of cellar ageing to tease out everything it is capable of. This is an impressively good addition to the portfolio.
