Das mundgeblasene Sophienwald-Champagnerglas ist eine imaginäre Kreuzung aus dem Spiegelau Adina sowie dem ZALTO und überzeugt in der Basis und bei hochrangigen Blanc de Blancs vor allem durch "seine Präzision und trotzdem lecker"!
Many articles and benchmarks have been published already about the perfect wine glass. After Riedel's turned the market inside out some time ago in the past, ZALTO entered the szene with a completely new approach and now more and more manufacturer are following with new ideas and glas shapes.
I am known for being very fussy about the perfect glass. I was never too enthusiastic about all-round glasses, there is almost no all-round glas that really convinced me.
At the end those galsses always where great for one sort of wine and for the others it was just okay.
This is particularly the case with high-class, complex champagnes.
However from these glasses, we are completely excited about:
The glass-manufacturer Sophienwald entirely convinced us to the full extent.
They use a mix of glass without lead oxide, which is put in woodshapes by blowin the glass by mouth.
The design speaks for itself:
The stick is elegant and robust. The glass is very thin but more shatterproof than other glasses.
All glasses are dishwasher-safe!
The top-gastronomy and also the champagne aficionados love this fact.
Excellent high quality and great value for money!
What makes the shape of the Sophienwald glass so special?
As you can see on the pictures the Sophienwald champagne-glass (on the right) is an imaginary crossover of the Spiegelau Adina (in the middle) and the ZALTO. It convinced me for Aperitive Champagnes and high class Blanc de Blanc Champagnes: the taste is very precise and the champagne tastes still very yummie :)
The sparkling wine is very focused on the tongue, but it also supports the development of the champagne about a certain time – a point of criticism that often had been made concering the very small Zalto champagne glass.
Moreover it is beau-ti-ful!
The Champagne- Cru glass- (on the left) is taller, wider and voluminous, simply a monster. It “swallows” the lighter wines literally, so it´s not very compatible for basic-cuvées.
Maybe that's the reason, why the Cru glass has the same price as the normal champagne glass - you simply need them both to have the best overall experience.
Prestige cuvées, aged blanc-de-blancs, high-class Ros, blanc-de noirs and terroir-wines present theirself extremely well within the Cru glass, they keep the concentration, weightiness and drive. The bubbles are vivid because of the reducing shape of the glass from the top down.
If you take a sip from this glass, your entire mouth will get flooded by wine. After that “Wine-wave” there is a lot of elegance and minerality left over, which I never expired before (for the real excellent champagnes I normally used the ZALTO Burgundy or the old Riedel collection).
Conclusion: A great glass. It makes fun and helps to unfold special notes of great champagne.
